Step inside Cattails Lodge, where St. Louis cats experience a world of comfort, enrichment, and attentive care. Our facility is designed to delight both felines and their owners, setting a new standard for luxury boarding.

With over 35 years in the pet industry, I've dedicated my life to elevating the standard of care for the pet industry and the pets we care for. My journey began with Animal Science education at Mizzou and veterinary technician training. In 1997, I founded 4-Legged Kids in St. Louis, which is the area's largest staffed in-home pet care service providing over 300,000 visits to pet parent homes.
Throughout my career, I’ve stayed deeply connected to the rescue community- personally saving dogs and puppies from death row, preparing them for foster homes, and previously serving on the board of Open Door Animal Sanctuary,, one of Missouri’s largest no-kill shelters. As an advocate for social responsibility, I designed a One-for-One business model that donates a meal to a local homeless pet for every service provided, supporting organizations like Tenth Life Cat Rescue..
Education is at the heart of what I do. I am proud to be the first in-home pet care provider in Missouri to achieve Certified Professional Animal Care Operator status with the Professional Animal Care Certification Council. I was also the first to become Fear Free certified in Missouri. I continue to pursue excellence in animal care as a Certified Professional Pet Sitter through Pet Sitters International (and a top 5 finalist for International Pet Sitter of the Year ), as well as a member of the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters, and a member of International Boarding & Pet Services Association (and their 2024 IBBY Independent Provider Excellence Award winner)
I’m honored to be recognized as an international educator and speaker at pet industry conferences, sharing knowledge and advocating for better care standards worldwide. My passion for pets and their people drives everything I do- and is at the heart of Cattails Lodge’s commitment to providing cats with the attention, enrichment, and comfort they deserve.

Melissa’s lifelong passion for animals led her to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Animal and Equine Science from Murray State University. With hands-on experience at multiple veterinary clinics in both St. Louis and Texas, she has developed a deep understanding of animal health and a genuine empathy for pets and their families.
Melissa’s commitment to raising standards in pet care also took her into the business side of the veterinary world, serving as a Business Development Researcher for Southern Veterinary Partners out of Alabama. There, she focused on helping clinics grow and improve their services while keeping animal welfare front and center.
As General Manager for both Cattails Lodge and 4-Legged Kids, Melissa brings together her expertise in animal care, her drive for excellence, and her love for all things feline. She is dedicated to ensuring every cat- and every cat parent- feels welcome, understood, and completely at ease. For Melissa, making a difference in the lives of pets isn’t just a job; it’s her calling.

How do I make a reservation?
Booking is easy- reserve your cat's suite online or give us a call. Our office hours are Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm and you can call us at 636-405-9991. We're here to help every step of the way.
Do you require a deposit? When is payment due?
A 50% nonrefundable deposit secures your reservation, with the balance due at drop-off. For peak holiday dates, full payment may be required in advance.
What is your cancellation policy?
For non-peak stays, cancel at least 7 days before check-in to receive a deposit credit for future use. Cancellations within 7 days forfeit the deposit. For peak/holiday periods, cancel at least 21 days before check-in for a refund; within 21 days, the deposit is forfeited.
What if my travel plans change?
Let us know as soon as possible! We'll do our best to accommodate changes, though availability and additional fees may apply during busy periods. Early returns forfeit 2 days of fees and the balance will be held as a credit towards future services.
What should I bring for my cat's stay?
Please pack enough of your cat's regular food (plus a little extra), all medications and supplies, and up to two small, washable comfort items (like a t-shirt or blanket). We provide natural pine litter, but you're welcome to bring your cat's favorite variety. We do our best to keep your pet's belongings safe and organized, but we can't be responsible for lost or damaged items. Please label everything clearly.
Can you administer medications?
Yes- our experienced staff can administer most medications, including insulin and subcutaneous fluids. Injectable meds: $5/dose. Subcutaneous fluids: $10/dose. Please bring all medications clearly labeled with instructions.
Will you help with special diets or raw feeding?
We support raw or special diets- just bring foods portioned and labeled. A small fee of $4 per day applies for storage and preparation.
What if I forget my cat's food?
No worries! We recommend bringing enough for the entire stay, but if you forget or run out, we can provide dry or canned food for an additional fee.
How do check-in and check-out work?
All visits are by appointment for a calm, personalized experience. Check-in is between 3pm and 6pm; check-out is between 8am and 11am. Late check-outs may incur a half-day fee. All cats must arrive and depart in a secure carrier with one cat per carrier.
Can someone else drop off or pick up my cat?
Of course! Just let us know in advance and provide the authorized person's name and contact information.
What if I don't pick up my cat on time?
Please keep us informed of any delays. Additional nights and food will be billed if your cat stays beyond their scheduled departure.
Can I visit or tour the lodge before boarding?
We love showing off our space! Tours are available by appointment on Tuesdays and Thursdays so you get our undivided attention.
What vaccinations are required for my cat's stay?
Your cat's health is our top priority. We require up-to-date Rabies and FVRCP (feline viral rhinotracheitis, calici, and panleukopenia) vaccinations prior to check-in. FeLV is optional.
What if my cat is sick or shows symptoms before or during their stay?
If your cat shows signs of illness or parasites at drop-off, we will not be able to admit them and your deposit will be refunded. If your cat becomes unwell during their stay, we'll provide necessary care up to veterinary support and add charges to your bill. If your cat has chronic health conditions that need additional monitoring, please provide current veterinary records in advance.
Are there cats you cannot accept?
To protect all our guests, we cannot accept pregnant cats, intact males, or those with highly contagious conditions (such as ringworm or active respiratory infection). We may not be able to accommodate special needs cats if we cannot safely meet their requirements.
What if my cat has an accident or shows stress-related symptoms?
Mild stress can happen. If your cat experiences minor vomiting or diarrhea, we'll provide supportive care and bill any related charges to you.
How do you handle medical emergencies?
In the unlikely event of an emergency, we'll contact you immediately. If we're unable to reach you, we'll reach out to your designated emergency contact. Should urgent care be needed, we will transport your cat to your veterinarian (if possible) or a trusted local clinic or emergency clinic. All medical and transportation expenses are the owner's responsibility.
How do you ensure the safety and security of my cat? Is the facility staffed overnight?
Our lodge features secure, cat-only boarding areas and monitored entry/exit points. Each cat enjoys a private suite to help them feel calm and secure. While our team isn't onsite overnight, our safety protocols are designed for complete peace of mind.
What are your sanitation protocols?
Every suite is thoroughly cleaned daily and sanitized between guests to create the safest, healthiest environment for your cat.
What types of accommodations are available?
Choose from a range of luxury suites, each with plush bedding, climbing structures, and plenty of sunny nooks, scratching posts, and toys for endless entertainment. Suite sizes vary from 180 to 256 cubic feet, and our team will help you select the perfect fit.
Can my cats stay together?
Yes! Multi-cat families can be accommodated together in the same suite upon request. Particular suites can accommodate up to 6 cats from the same family. Each additional cat is only $25 per day which provides all the amenities that Cattails has to offer.
How much interaction and enrichment will my cat get?
Every guest enjoys daily play sessions, exercise, and up to an hour of enrichment in our Lodge Lounge. Our team speaks cat fluently and provides one-on-one attention, tailored play, and cozy cuddles.
Will my cat interact with other cats?
